Movie Review: Dhoobi Ghat: (2.5/5) It lets you down !

Dhobi Ghat is an unusual 95-minute film without an interval, unlike regular Hindi films. Its a documentry moreover than a commercial bollywood film.

Shai (Monica Dogra) is a NRI investment banker who is in town on a sabbatical from her job, to indulge her passion for photography. She spends the night with brooding artist Arun (Aamir Khan), who regrets the one-night stand. But Shai, although hurt, feels like they made a connection. Munna (Prateik Babbar) is a dhobi nursing acting ambitions, who agrees to introduce Shia to the city, and ends up with a crush on her. Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra) is a young Muslim girl who has moved to Mumbai from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, and is recording video diaries for her brother back home. We only see Yasmin in this recorded footage that Arun stumbles onto and becomes obsessed with.

Dhobi Ghat fails for a lot of reasons:
1. Though the movie is 95 min duration, but it lacks the grip to the audience. You feel bore due to the slowness of the movie.
2. Aamir khan has disappointed this time with his acting skills. In many scenes his overacting for the character was clearly appearing. Arun's character irritates you the most in the movie, still the director has tried to keep Aamir in the focus.
3. A lot of work could have been done on the dialouge's.

But still movie has some good points like beautiful cinemetography and the simple characters. The Pretik's character Munna impresses you the most in the movie.

A nice effort done by Kiran Rao as a debutant director along with the terrific background score that suits the movies mood perfectly.

I am going with 2.5 out of 5 for this movie. There's nothing wrong in making an unconventional film, but it has to be entertaining. Sadly, Dhoobi Ghat lets you down.
