’No One Killed Jessica’, directed by Rajkumar Gupta, is a loud, overdramatized account of the Jessica Lall murder in 1999 and the events that followed.
Sabrina (Vidya Balan) who plays Jessica's sister is a dull, geeky look girl who fights for her sisters murder who was killed by a politician's son just because she refused to give the drink to him after the bar had been closed.
As it was poliitician's son, there was no witness who dare to speak the truth in the court, so the accused got free from the court.
Here comes the character of Meera (Rani Mukherji). Meera is a star journalist and very bold in whatever she speaks(mostly abusing words) who initially has no interest in the Jessica story, then goes after it when she's convinced justice has been denied, and spearheads a campaign to undo the damage and finally Jessica gts the justice.
‘No One Killed Jessica’ lacks the screenplay, dialouge writing at many places. There is a series of court scene which looks like director has not put much effort in drafting the side characters very well and it could have been much much better that what he showed.
Vidya Balan has given fabulous performance and again did the justice with her character. Though Rani's performance is so so.
Film's music and background score is impressive and perfectly suits the theme.
’No One Killed Jessica’ isn't a bad film; it's just a disappointing one from a filmmaker who showed such promise with his debut film ‘Aamir’. This one falls short.
I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for director Rajkumar Gupta's ‘No One Killed Jessica’. It was not like how I expected!
