'Mirch', directed by Vinay Shukla, is a delicious idea that unfortunately doesn't translate into a good film.
Manav (played by Arunoday Singh) is a script writter whose story is rejected by many producers. The frustated writter then narrates a panchtantra story to a producer, about a woman caught red-handed with her lover by her husband - that finally has a potential producer hooked.
Manav narrates four more such storys to the producer 2 of which are of ancient time and two are of modern age. But all four stories have the same basis, the womens extra marritial affairs.
These stories are smart and sexy, particularly the first two that are set in earlier times, and star Raima Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma as the adulterous wives who think on their feet. Both actresses return for the next two stories that are set in contemporary times, but these tales are considerably less mischievous than the previous two.
The stories keeps you engaged throughout the movie. Raima sen and Konkana have given a brilliant performance in their character.
The film is enjoyable also for it's fresh take on women's emancipation, and for the cunning manner it plays the gender reversal card.
Songs and background music perfectly suits the story line. However this film could have been much better as some of the stories are too short. A stronger male lead and some tighter editing might have turned this into a crackling film.
I am going with 2.5 out of 5 for this movie. This Mirch is little spicy but not as much as I expected.
